Teens at the Voorpl

Programs for tweens and teens are scheduled to be held in person this fall, but may be held virtually if conditions necessitate.  The first meeting of the Middle School Book Club will be held in early October at the public library.  We’ll be discussing the summer’s Read It Forward title, Ghost by Jason Reynolds and pulling one RIF raffle winner! Students in grades 6 and up are invited to join the Teen Advisory Group to volunteer for the public library. The TAG meeting will be held in person and on Zoom if necessary for TAG members with transportation issues. Librarian Debbie Sternklar is also collaborating with the Middle/High School Librarian, Chris Menetti. Check the School Library Google Classroom for First Chapter Friday recorded readings and other activities. Keep an eye on  EventKeeper for dates and details of more upcoming programs.

Be the Change
The environment, immigration, gun violence, racism, mental health, and any number of social issues can be explored through books.
  • Read a fiction or nonfiction book about a topic that interests you, share a slide with teens@voorpl.org to snag your Be the Change tote bag and earn three hours of Community Service time!
  • Families and friends are encouraged to read together as well and discuss a title to claim a canvas bag.
  • Email Debbie Sternklar at teens@voorpl.org if you need book suggestions for your topic.
Teen Readalikes
While reading one book, do you find it reminds you of other books? That happens to me — ALL. THE. TIME!  Watch this spot for reading suggestions based on popular books & movies. Submit your readalike tips to teens@voorpl.org, or share a Google slide for posting. Teen volunteer hours will be your reward!
