Level Readers

  • Allow children to choose their own reading material.
  • Set a good example as a reader. Read alone and read aloud. Elementary-aged independent readers still enjoy being read to.
  • Children who are excited  about reading will continue to read. Allow children to self-select books that speak to their interests.
  • Allow children to read at their own pace. Comprehension is more important than speed.
  • Talk with your child about what he/she is reading.
  • Create opportunities to read books and discuss them with your child.
  • Visit your public library and get a library card
