Youth Programs & Services

Our talented Youth Services librarians develop programs and collections to support our mission. Programs focus on early literacy, arts, science, and technology in a fun and social environment. Our Children’s Area is stocked with creative toys to play and learn with your child along with critically acclaimed tech tools including an Early Literacy Station loaded with educational games.

Early Literacy
We promote development of early literacy skills for newborn through preschoolers at our regular storytimes. For dates and times go to the online calendar or contact the library.

The Voorheesville Library has joined the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" national initiative. Read more about it.

Elementary–Aged Children

Through our collection of picture books, readers, ready-for-chapters, popular and award-winning series, fiction and nonfiction, we support the ongoing literacy and reading interests of children who are just beginning to read and of those who have become independent readers with individual reading interests. Our knowledgeable Youth Services librarians are happy to assist with helping your child with reading selections.

The library provides remote access to databases that will help with homework assignments.

We offer a variety of school-aged programs - at the library, out in the community, and at the schools - for different grade levels. Some of the program offerings include STEAM, LEGO®, technology, book groups, family book discussions, in-person and virtual author visits, maker and crafts, and community service projects. There are special programs during school vacations and during our Summer Learning Program. Check the calendar to see upcoming programs.

Reading Skills

Meet Duke, a certified Therapy Dog and our official ‘Paws for Reading’ dog! Duke loves to listen to books, especially dog books! Find the next program on the calendar and make an appointment for your child to read to Duke with Mrs. Brown.

Parenting Collection
Located in the Children’s Area, this collection includes books on a variety of topics such as health, education, and baby care.

Digital Literacy

Beanstack is a free service to help you find books your child will enjoy! Does your child like adventure? Animals? Princesses? All three? You identify your child’s interests and log books they have read. We’ll email you suggestions from our catalog each week along with a learning tip for sharing the book. Upcoming library events tailored to your child’s age will also be included.

eReader Lending

We have two eReaders loaded with lots of books selected by our librarians. Check out the Picture Books/Easy Reader eReader or the Kids eReader.

Children’s and Teens iPads

We have iPads loaded with educational and fun apps available to use in the library. Stop by the circulation desk to check them out!
